New Scanner

I bought an Epson Perfection 4180 photo scanner from a dude on Craigslist the other day and it seems pretty sweet so far, does both reflective scanning and negatives. I thought I'd share some of my test scans as they're all previously unreleased! :P

This is a sketch I did while we were camping at Stony Brook with Josh and Janelle. Deanna gave me a couple neat little sketchbooks as part of my birthday present, so I drew the random things sitting on the table near the campfire. The style is totally stolen from my sister when she does this kind of thing.

It does well at negatives so far, maybe lacking a bit in saturation on color film, but nice and sharp. Black and white comes out nicely, especially when you scan it as color film.

I had almost forgotten about these photos from the Albright-Knox. For some reason, the camera rewound mid-roll, so I only ended up taking 6 exposures. 

Ha, I gotta watch the dust on the scanner bed. Oh well. Still neat!

Pioneer Breakfast 2011

Although it was late this year, our annual Bielewicz family Pioneer Breakfast was a good time and provided a bunch of fun photo opportunities for me. It's different not to worry about simply staying warm or shivering too much to be accurate while firing a pistol—typically our day of testosterone and ass-hattery takes place in the dead cold of February. Instead, we had a nice morning of about 60°, then had rain ever more steadily sifting through the forest canopy and proclaiming itself with loud remarks of thunder that echoed from all sides. I guess it's been a while since I've been outdoors in a quiet woods when a thunderstorm starts brewing... it's certainly an interesting aural sensation. We did get rained out, but got to spend some time in my Uncle Roy's great new kitchen and man cave. 

I love how my Dad looks like the little old man tending to the oven while the giants in the foreground ferociously devour the food on the table.

I got a new bike! I got a new bike woooooo!

It's a Giant, and it's awesome.

I haven't had a new bike since I was 8 or 9... and if this one had teal it'd even have the same color scheme, ha. I love it, it makes me just want to go out and ride around town!
