Music Geek Series

Yesterday I finished my four-piece "Music Geek" series. They'll be on display (and for sale!) at the Grass Roots Gallery, for their First Friday show on the 3rd.

I loved the process of making these. I think Claybord is the ideal surface for me, it can be washed/drawn on with ink and then scratched away with scratchboard tools, giving the opportunity for both positive (like the red amp) and negative drawing (like the banjo). Love it!

Each piece is on 6x6" board, mounted on 9x9" ink-stained wood.

Tree Commission

I was commissioned to do a reproduction of a 3-panel piece to hang in a living room. It isn't super glamorous work, but I had fun doing it. I realize I didn't get a photo of the piece after painting the sides and varnishing, but maybe I can get one in situ after it's hung.

If life had video game style achievements, this would be something like:
*BWZING!* ACHIEVEMENT: COUCH ART!

Each panel measures 18x36".

Pumpkin Carving

Had a pumpkin carving session tonight with Paul, Kim, Deanna (and briefly Natalie).

Paul's finished carving. It kinda goes all the way around.

And here's my finished carving.

Blinkenlights

The sound recording studios in Fredonia used to have this little faux-German/English blurb taped to the doors. It always made my inner sound recording engineer chuckle, so I made this poster of it.
Pictured with said blinkenlights.

Also, Bezzie found her new favorite sleepyplace, where she can keep an eye on me while I work.

Art Awake

...was cool! The vacant second floor of the Alliance building made a good venue for the artwork, bands and of course cupcakes. Seeing that it was a juried show, Deanna was proud to get 2 pieces chosen, a diptych called "You and Me" and "This Kind of Geek," which is on loan from Emily, as it was her birthday present :)

After some initial disappointment (read: near panic attack) at how they had hung "You and Me" (separately,  completely hidden behind a wine tasting guy) we found the people putting it on and got it all straightened out. They hung it properly and all was well. A bunch of DS peeps came, a couple great bands played (especially at the smaller of the two stages)... a good night all in all.

Quite possibly the only photo you'll see of Deanna standing near her own artwork.

Sorry, douchey wine dude, but your Riesling was terrible.

Cause, like, you gotta have an orange guy.

Deanna, Mike Schwabl, Lauren Dixon and Jim Varble overlook "This Kind of Geek."

Hooray, a proper diptych!

Heehee, aww.

Charles explains Deanna's pieces to the onlookers.
